Dee Why is a suburb located in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney, Australia. It is situated approximately 18 kilometers northeast of the Sydney central business district.
Dee Why was originally inhabited by the Guringai people, the Indigenous custodians of the land. European settlement began in the 19th century, with the establishment of farms and small settlements.
The name "Dee Why" is believed to have been derived from the Aboriginal word "Diyi," which means "place of thunder." Years later, Dee Why was named after the Dee Why Lagoon, a natural waterway that flows into the ocean.
