Earlwood is a suburb located in the Inner West region of Sydney, Australia. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers southwest of the Sydney central business district.
Earlwood is surrounded by several neighboring suburbs. To the north, it is bordered by Marrickville and Dulwich Hill. To the east, you`ll find Bardwell Valley and Bardwell Park. The suburb of Clemton Park lies to the south, and Bexley and Bexley North are situated to the west.
The area was originally inhabited by the Indigenous Cadigal people before European settlement. Earlwood was initially a rural and farming region before undergoing suburban development in the mid-20th century.
In 1844, the Illawarra Railway Line was developed, which provided improved transportation links and facilitated growth. In 1914, Earlwood Post Office was established, serving as a vital communication hub for the local community. The suburb also saw the establishment of essential services such as hospitals, including Canterbury Hospital, which opened its doors in 1921.
