A suburb of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia, Minto Heights is under the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and part of the Macarthur region. Beginning in the late 19th century, the area`s bushland was removed to make way for orchards and other small farms. When the Council designated the suburb as a "Scenic Protection Area" with minimum property sizes of 5 acres, the region avoided extensive development during Campbelltown`s population surge in the 1970s. Before that time, the region was referred to as East Minto and, like its neighbor, was named for Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, the Earl of Minto. Locals persisted in calling it East Minto instead of Warby when Campbelltown Council suggested changing the name to that in 1973. Before agreement was achieved with Minto Heights in 1976, Eastminto, Myrtlefield, Hansen, and Kyngmount were also rejected by one side or the other.
