A suburb in northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Bilgola Beach belongs to the local government area of Northern Beaches Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region. Located between Avalon Beach and Newport, Bilgola Beach is on the Tasman Sea side which belongs to the Barrenjoey Peninsula. The sand in the area is coarse and of the shade of gold, that sticks up to the skin, and right in the middle of the beach, sandbanks can be found. The word Bilgola came from the Aboriginal term Belgoula which means “swirling waters” or “a pretty beach with steep stones, studded with cabbage palms”.
