A suburb in the northern part of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Clareville belongs to the local government area of Northern Beaches Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region. The suburb is bordered by neighboring suburbs of Avalon Beach, Bilgola Plateau, and Newport. Father John Joseph Theryy, a Catholic priest who arrived in Sydney in 1820, received two large land grants in 1830. The present-day Clareville originally belonged to this land grant. It is believed that Clareville was historically accessed by water. As the 1920s arrived, the area was subdivided and tons of people in Sydney purchased their holiday homes. Along with the increase in motor car use in the 1950s, the area became a residential zone.
