About North Parramatta

A suburb of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia, North Parramatta is under the local government area of the City of Parramatta. The Darug people, who had been residing in the region for many centuries, viewed it as a food bowl since it was so abundant in foods from the river and forests. They gave the region the name Baramada or Burramatta (sometimes spelled "Parramatta"), which is Aboriginal for "the place where the eels lie down." Lake Parramatta and The King`s School, which together occupy about 50% of the land area of North Parramatta, are the most prominent features of the suburb. A 10-hectare reserve called Lake Parramatta is built around a previous reservoir. Hunts Creek, Pennant Hills Road, and North Rocks Road form the boundaries of the lake`s catchment area. Locals who like swimming can enjoy swimming at Lake Parramatta. Although pollution forced its closure, it was reopened in January 2015.
