Mortlake, located in Sydney`s Inner West, New South Wales, Australia, lies approximately 10 kilometers west of the central business district within the City of Canada Bay. Situated on the southern bank of the Parramatta River, it`s home to the Mortlake Ferry, Sydney`s last operating punt service, and serves as the terminus for bus route 464 to Ashfield railway station. The suburb`s name is linked to its namesake in London, along the Thames, as it was known as "Bottle Point" in its early days. Mortlake played a significant role as the location of the Australian Gas Light Company (AGL) gas works and later transformed into the Breakfast Point residential development. During World War II, the Green Point Naval Boatyard assembled Fairmile B motor launches in Mortlake. The suburb has historical ties to an electric tramway, which connected it to Burwood, Enfield, and Ashfield until 1948. As of the 2016 Census, Mortlake had a population of 1,063, with a majority being Australian-born and predominantly English-speaking residents, along with a notable Catholic community.
