An urban locality on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Gore Hill can be located within the suburb of Artarmon’s southern part and on St. Leonards’ north-western side. The name Gore Hill came from William Gore, the colonial Sydney’s provost marshal, who possessed 61 hectares of property in this particular area. Brick and tile works were prominent in Gore Hill in the past; the production of bricks started in 1828 to the year 1954. In 1902, a siding was created from the North Shore Railway to a brick factory owned by the North Shore Brick and Tile Company. Horses were used to pull uncovered 4-wheeled wagons along the line. In 1910, the line was extended underneath the Reserve Road using a tunnel. While it is currently inaccessible to the public, the tunnel still exists and has become integrated into Austcorp’s Winevault complex.
