Wallacia, a suburb in New South Wales, Australia, situated 68 kilometers west of Sydney's General Post Office, has evolved from its rural roots to become part of Greater Western Sydney. Originally named Riverview, the area gained its local moniker, Wallace, after Robert Wallace, a cattle grazier in the region. The unofficial Post Office, established in 1885 at Wallace's residence, became Wallacia's official Post Office in 1906 after objections to the proposed name Boondah. John and Ethel Mary Fowler managed the Post Office from 1908 onwards, marking a century of continuous Fowler family management by 2008. The suburb's history is marked by a wooden weir at Grove Farm, originally built for a flour mill and brewery, and later purchased by William "Billy" Baines. During the 19th century, Wallacia was known for dairying and grazing, transitioning to a tourist destination in the early 20th century. The decline in tourism post-World War II led to a shift towards hobby farms. Notable landmarks include the Weir, Wallacia Bridge, Little Bondi, and Wallacia Hotel. The area also hosts the Assyrian Saint Zaia event at Blaxland Crossing Reserve and features the Phap Bao Zen Centre, a Vietnamese Buddhist monastery. Bents Basin, a nature reserve with a large swimming hole, lies a few kilometers south of Wallacia.
