A suburb located in the Inner West of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia, Strathfield South is under the local government area of the Strathfield Council. In the past, the area belonged to Druitt Town. Afterwards, it was a part of Enfield, until Burwood and Strathfield councils absorbed Enfield Council, at which point the area inside Strathfield Council became known as Strathfield South. Two early land grants, the 1808 donation to James Wilshire (after known as the Redmire Estate) and the 1837 grant to Father John Joseph Therry (which became the Village of St Anne`s), comprise the majority of Strathfield South. Except for a few stores around the Liverpool Road and Homebush Road intersection, Strathfield South is mostly a low-rise residential area. On the Hume Highway, the first high-rise construction has now been developed. The Cooks River and parklands divide the suburban area into its industrial and residential sections.
