Lurnea is a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. The suburb can be found in the City of Liverpool local government area, approximately 35 kilometres west of Sydney. Lurnea was surrounded by its neighbouring suburbs of Cartwright, Prestons, Casula, and Liverpool. Historically, the area where Lurnea lies today was originally home to the Cabrogal people. In the 1800s, prior to the settlement of British people, the area was once called Hillview because it showcased a beautiful view of the Liverpool area. The name of the suburb, Lurnea meaning ‘a resting place’, was given to it after World War 1 when it became a place for soldiers to settle. In terms of education, there are different schools that can be found in Lurnea including Lurnea High School, Lurnea Public School, and St Francis Xavier Primary School. According to the 2016 Australian census, the population of the suburb consists of 9,311 residents.
