A suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Greenwich is situated on the Lower North Shore of the city and belongs to the local government area of the Municipality of Lane Cove. The name of the suburb came from Greenwich, on the banks of the River Thames in London. Before the arrival of the Europeans, the Cammeraygal clan of Dharug-speaking people of the Eora Nation lives in present-day Greenwich. They lived along the foreshores of the harbour, and hunts in the area and traded with other clans. The first recorded European that went to present-day Greenwich was in 1788, it was when Lieutenant Henry Ball passed through the area. One of the biggest events in the suburb is the Greenwich Village Games, which is held every four years featuring various sports and competitions. The event is mostly held in Bob Campbell Oval and Land Cove Aquatic Center.
