A suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Green Valley is in the local government area of the City of Liverpool and part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Before the arrival of the Europeans, Green Valley was the home of the Cabrogal people who speak the Darug language. It was originally covered by eucalyptus trees and was also the home of various native animals such as possums and wallabies that were hunted for their meat, bones, and hides by the Cabrogal. In 1810, when Governor Lachlan Macquarie established a town in the neighboring Liverpool, the surrounding areas were then granted to the British settlers who began clearing the forests for farmlands. Peter Miller was one of the first settlers in the area and his name was the origin of the nearby suburb Miller. Another notable early settler in the area was Charles Scrivener, he served as Liverpool’s mayor and oversaw Green Valley School’s establishment in 1882.
