About Dharruk

A suburb in the Greater Western Sydney region, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, Dharruk is located in the local government area of the City of Blacktown. The suburb is mainly composed of residential areas with no commercial or industry district. Although there is a large education area in the suburb, the Mount Druitt campus of Chifley College and Dawson Public School are located within the suburb and occupy most of the land area. The housing in the suburb is a mixture of former NSW Housing Commission estate and private residential development and is mostly low-density in nature. Most of the houses were erected between the period of 1960s and mid-1970s. The name of the suburb ‘Dharruk’ came from an Aboriginal tribe that is mainly associated with the western area of Sydney, the Darug people.
