A suburb of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia, Claymore is part of the Macarthur region and under the jurisdiction of the local government area of the City of Campbelltown. The streets in the suburb are named after Australian artists, and most of the homes are owned by Housing NSW. Tharawal people inhabited the present-day Claymore before the arrival of the Europeans. Then in the 19th century, the British started to settle in the area and established farms and orchards. In the 1970s, the development of Sydney was sufficient enough for developers to look at the area around Campbeltown. The suburb was originally to be named Badgally, after a local homestead, but concerns arise that the word ‘bad’ might give unfavorable impressions about the suburb. So, they have chosen Claymore, a name after another local property, although this name also possesses little history about the area.
