About Camden South
Camden South is a suburb under the local government area of Camden Council, it is located in the Macarthur Region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Before the arrival of the Europeans, the area was the home of the Muringong, they are the southernmost of the Darug people, and the Gandangara people of the Southern Highlands. John Macarthur, a wool pioneer was granted 5,000 acres of land in present-day Camden in the year 1805. The land was mainly used for farming for the next 200 years after its clearing, that is until Sydney’s suburban development reach the town of Camden, and just like most of the modern suburbs, Camden South was divided into housing blocks. According to the 2016 census, the population of Camden South is 4,539, most of the residents were born in Australia while the next most common country of origin is England.
