Bass Hill is a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia located 23 kilometres south-west of the city’s Central Business District (CBD). It is considered part of the local government area of the City of Bankstown and is administered by the Bankstown City Council. The suburb was initially named the Irish Town because of the huge amount of Irish Settlers in the place and became known as Upper Bankstown after that. Bass Hill was named in honour of George Bass who is a surgeon and explorer. The suburb features a small shopping centre situated on the Hume Highway.
