Banksia is a residential suburb with some commercial developments that can be seen, situated in the southern part of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. It is located 12 kilometres south of Sydney`s Central Business District (CBD) and is considered part of the St George Area. Banksia is administered by the local government area of the City of Rockdale. The suburb is named after a botanist from the Voyage of Discovery of James Cook, Joseph Banks. Banksia offers different landmarks such as its Gardiner Park, Banksia Baptist Church, Banksia Hotel, National FIlm and Sound Archive, and Rocksia Hotel. It has its own railway station, called the Banksia Railway Station, and is also being serviced by Sydney buses routes 400 and 410. Beside the Banksia Railway Station is the Railway Street where the suburb’s shopping centres can be found.
