Haworth's Aeonium (Aeonium haworthii):

This is a succulent plant native to the Canary Islands. Haworth's Aeonium forms rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves that radiate outwards in a pinwheel-like arrangement. The leaves are typically green, but they can take on reddish tones in response to sunlight.

  • Lighting: Provide bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, but too much can lead to sunburn.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. A mixture of potting soil, perlite, and coarse sand works well.

  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. When you water, do so thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains away. Empty the saucer beneath the pot to prevent water from pooling.

  • Temperature: Aeonium haworthii prefers temperatures between 18-24C. It is not cold-tolerant and should be protected from frost.

  • Humidity: It can tolerate normal indoor humidity levels. However, ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent excess moisture buildup.

  • Fertilisation: Aeoniums are not heavy feeders. Feed sparingly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilising in winter.

  • Potting: Repot when the plant becomes root-bound or outgrows its container, typically every 2-3 years. Use a pot that's slightly larger than the current one.

  • Propagation: Aeonium haworthii can be propagated from offsets, leaf cuttings, or seeds. Offsets are small plantlets that grow at the base of the mother plant. Leaf cuttings can be rooted in well-draining soil.

  • Pest and Disease Control: Aeoniums are generally resistant to pests, but they can occasionally be affected by mealybugs or aphids. Regularly inspect your plant and treat any infestations promptly.

  • Toxicity: Aeoniums are non-toxic to humans and pets, making them safe to have around.

Haworth's Aeonium is a striking succulent with its unique pinwheel shape and can be a wonderful addition to a succulent garden or collection. Remember to tailor its care to your specific environment and provide the well-draining soil and bright, indirect light it prefers.
