Botany is a suburb located on the northern shore of Botany Bay, on the Eastern Side of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It lies east of Sydney Airport and adjacent to Banksmeadow, Mascot, Port Botany, and Pagewood. The suburb possesses an extensive commercial development that is centered around shipping and freight businesses. A large chemical production facility owned by various organizations such as Huntsman and Orica is also situated in Botany. The plant was built in the 1940s, it manufactured products including paints, plastics, and industrial chemicals like solvents, which resulted in a large groundwater plume pollution in the area.
